Chandler Smith battles to top 10 in only third NASCAR Xfinity Series start
Step One Motorsports ambassador and NASCAR Truck Series championship protagonist, Chandler
Smith, battled to a top-10 finish in only his third Xfinity Series start at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
The 20-year-old, who is running a dual full and part-time campaign between the Trucks and Xfinity
Series in 2022, qualified eighth for Sam Hunt Racing.
Chandler got off to a competitive start in Stage One and kept his position inside the top 10 before a
collision between J.J. Yeley and Riley Herbst brought out an early caution on lap three.
The race was resumed on lap eight and ran green until lap 42 when C.J. McLaughlin spun out after
Mason Massey hit the wall.
Although Chandler missed out on the top 10 in Stage One, he recovered in an uninterrupted Stage
Two to power to ninth, nearly two seconds clear of 10th-placed Stefan Parsons.
In Stage Three, he continued to rally and was threatening the top five before, with only 14 laps to
go, Parsons was caught in a collision with Kyle Sieg which caused a fourth caution.
The green flag flew for the final time with five laps remaining and in the closing sprint, Chandler
maintained seventh to take his first top 10 finish in the Xfinity Series.
“Our #26 GR Supra was fast tonight for a P7 finish,” said Chandler post-race. “Thanks to Sam Hunt
Racing for another opportunity this weekend!”
